Every supply bound for the upper Great Lakes went around Niagara Falls by the portage road, which climbed past the edge of the gorge below the falls. On 14 September 1763 several hundred Seneca warriors lay in wait where the road ran beside a deep ravine known as the Devil's Hole. They struck a returning wagon train and its escort, and men, horses and wagons went over the edge into the gorge. Two companies of soldiers hurrying up from the lower landing at the sound of firing were caught on the same ground. By the end of the day more than 70 soldiers and teamsters had been killed. The wagon master, John Stedman, was among the few who got away, escaping on horseback.

This two-figure set puts a pair of warriors on a base of grey rock, with a broken stump and a long, weathered fallen log. The first lies across the top of the rocks beside the stump, firing over them. He wears a red and blue feathered headdress, blue leggings and a green breechcloth, his chest and arms bare. The second kneels on one knee below, musket held across his body, ready to move up when his partner fires. He has a shaved head with a scalp lock, armbands and a sash. Add Native Warrior Kneeling Firing No.2 and Eastern Woodland Indian Standing Firing No. 1 along the rocks to extend the ambush line. Then march a column such as the British 60th Regiment of Foot, Marching down the road below.

W. Britain model 16131. 1/30 scale (approximately 60mm), matte-painted metal. Two foot figures with a sculpted rocky outcrop, stump and fallen log. Boxed.
