Band of the Fighting Irish
The marching band at the University of Notre Dame is the oldest university band in continual existence today. The band first formed in 1845 and has performed for every home football game since 187. Notre Dame's band was among the first in the nation to include pageantry, precision drill and the now-famous picture formations during performances. The band first accepted women in 1970, two years before the University became co-educational in 1972. The band has been declared a "Landmark of American Music".
