America built the half-track by the tens of thousands — more than 40,000 of them between 1940 and 1944 — and made it do nearly everything. The M3 and M3A1 personnel carriers hauled infantry across beaches and through mud, snow, and forest on every front, towed the 3-inch anti-tank gun, and served as the chassis for a whole family of variants: mortar carriers, self-propelled anti-aircraft mounts bristling with .50 calibers, command tracks, and ambulances. Standardization was the secret — a Half-Track Engineering Committee drawn from Autocar, White, and Diamond T built the vehicles around common parts so any depot could keep them running. Late-production M3A1s like this one mounted the .50 caliber M2 in an M49 ring over the co-driver.

The model carries that ring mount and .50 cal, radio gear, and seven separate stowage pieces, in the white-star and 9th Armored / 27th Infantry markings of A Company. It is the direct partner to the B Company Half-track — run the two together for a 9th Armored column, mount the Armored Infantry Officer aboard, and roll them beside the M4A3 Sherman in a combined-arms diorama.

W. Britain model 25092. 1/30 scale, matte finish. Multi-piece limited edition — one M3A1 half-track with M49 ring mount and M2HB .50 cal machine gun plus seven separate stowage pieces (13 pieces in all), with a numbered certificate of authenticity in an edition of 200. Boxed.
