Santa Anna did not send his men at the Alamo in a single mass. On the night of 5 March 1836 he split the assault force into four columns to strike the fort from four sides at once — Cós from the northwest, Duque's column from the north, Romero from the east, and Morales against the low south wall and the main gate — with a reserve held back under his own hand. The columns marched out in the dark hours after midnight and lay down in the cold within musket range of the walls, waiting for the bugle. For men who had crossed half of Mexico to get there, the last few hundred yards were made lying still in the frost, watching for the signal to rise.

King & Country's Set B adds a second pair to the marching column — two soldados striding forward in step, bayoneted muskets shouldered, faces set for the walls ahead. They wear the Mexican line uniform with red facings, white crossbelts and brass plates, tan haversacks and rolled blankets, their white trousers already stained from the road, on huarache sandals. Fall them in behind Marching to Battle (Set A) with S.A.I. Drummer Advancing beating time at the head and General Santa Anna directing from the flank, and the sets build a marching-column diorama of the army closing on the Alamo.
