The title is an order, not a description. After an attack you have two problems moving in the same direction: men who cannot fight any more, and men you have taken prisoner. So you make them each other's answer. German prisoners carried Allied wounded back on stretchers under escort — a duty common to every army in the war, and one every army pressed prisoners into. The walking wounded went back on their own legs. Nobody who could still hold a rifle was spared to do either job.

Two figures on one base, and the whole set is in the hands. They are cupped between the two men at chest height, out of the wind, which is how you light a cigarette in the open. The German is in a Stahlhelm and a field grey greatcoat, a scarf round his neck and red piping down his trousers; the Briton is in a Brodie and khaki with his haversack at his hip. Neither of them is doing anything he was ordered to do. In a diorama they are the last beat of a scene — put Move Up at the start of it, the Regimental Aid Post at the end, and the German walking wounded on the same road.

W. Britain model 23081. 1/30 scale (approximately 60mm), matte-painted metal. Two-figure set on a single sculpted groundwork base. Boxed.
