This dramatic two-figure set from King & Country’s “Life of Jesus” series portrays the two thieves who were crucified on either side of Jesus during the events of the Crucifixion.

According to the Gospel of Luke, the men were known as Dismas and Gestas. Dismas, often referred to as the Good Thief, repented for his sins and asked Jesus to remember him, while Gestas mocked and reviled Christ even in his final moments.

The figures illustrate the harsh reality of Roman crucifixion with historically inspired detail. One thief is shown with his arms extended over the crossbeam and his ankles nailed to either side of the vertical post, while the other is secured in a position similar to Christ, with nails driven through the palms of the hands and through both feet. Ropes are also used to secure the victims to their crosses, reflecting common Roman methods of execution.
