The Duke of Marlborough
This is Toy Soldier set 301 The Duke of Marlborough.
This set depicts John Churchill, 1st Duke of Marlborough, a renowned English soldier and statesman who served under five monarchs during the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
Rising from a humble page at the court of the House of Stuart, Churchill's loyalty and bravery earned him military and political advancements. He played a crucial role in defeating the Monmouth Rebellion in 1685, securing the throne for James, Duke of York. However, just three years later, he switched his allegiance to the Protestant Dutchman, William of Orange.
For his services, Churchill was honored with the earldom of Marlborough at William's coronation. He continued to serve with distinction in the Nine Years' War, but accusations of Jacobitism led to his downfall and temporary imprisonment in the Tower.
It wasn't until Queen Anne's accession in 1702 that Marlborough reached the peak of his powers and achieved fame and fortune. This Toy Soldier set is hand painted and packed in Classic Tradition Red Boxes. Each figure is cast in high-quality white metal and individually hand painted with gloss enamels. Please allow for 2-3 weeks for delivery.
