The M18 Hellcat was built around a single idea: speed. Buick's tank destroyer could touch nearly 55 miles an hour on a road — the fastest tracked armored vehicle of the war — because American doctrine held that a tank destroyer should hunt enemy armor and strike from the flank rather than trade blows head-on. Its 76mm gun could not punch through a Panther's frontal plate, so Hellcat crews used their speed to get around the side, fire, and displace before the enemy could traverse. First blooded at Anzio in early 1944, the M18 fought across the European campaign, often pressed into service as mobile artillery in support of the infantry.

The model carries the open-topped turret and long 76mm gun, a .50 cal for close defence, a crew figure, scale antenna and optional stowage, in the olive drab and white-star markings of the 811th Tank Destroyer Battalion — hull number 40145442. As the fast half of an armor diorama it runs alongside the heavier M10 GMC Tank Destroyer and the M4A3 Sherman, 6th Armored, with the U.S. Tankers and Accessories Set to crew the column.
