Could he be watching long trains of wagons filled with provisions meant for the front lines? Maybe he is awaiting the train himself, Washington bound, there to work in one of the hospitals. Perhaps his thoughts are more pleasant. Is he remembering the scent of rosewater and the rustle of silk? Is there a girl for whom his heart pines? Maybe he is gathering courage to ask her father for her hand in marriage? What do you think he is thinking?
