This toy soldier, model number 20204, depicts a Zulu Chief Signaling.

In the Zulu command structure, there were hierarchical divisions similar to those found in modern and ancient armies. The iNduna, or tribal leader, was in charge of these divisions. An Elder iNduna held the highest rank and had overall command of a specific force. They were often accompanied by experienced chiefs on important campaigns.

Below the Elder iNduna were Senior iNduna who controlled the grouping of corps. The corps commander was under their command. Tactical movements were coordinated by the iziNduna, or plural of iNduna, who used hand signals and messengers to deliver orders. At the regimental level, lower ranked iNduna acted as NCOs, maintaining discipline and boosting morale.

This Zulu Chief Signaling toy soldier is a 1/30 scale and has a matte finish. It is a one-piece set, making it easy to display and play with. Add it to your collection of historical toy soldiers or use it to learn about the Zulu command structure and military tactics.
