The 5th New York Volunteer Infantry — Duryée's Zouaves — was the most famous Zouave regiment in the Union army. Recruited in New York City in May 1861, they wore the full Algerian-French dress that other regiments only approximated: red fez with yellow tassel, short embroidered jacket, scarlet sash, baggy red pantaloons, white gaiters. On August 30, 1862, at Second Bull Run, the regiment was caught in the open by Hood's Texas Brigade attacking down a flank. In roughly ten minutes the 5th lost 332 men out of 525 engaged — more killed in ten minutes than any other Union regiment in any ten-minute span of the entire war.

The nine-figure set captures the regiment in fight: seven Zouaves in the firing line with rifle muskets at the aim, the officer at the center in longer field dress firing a revolver, and the color bearer holding the Stars and Stripes high. The Zouave uniform reads at a glance across the entire set — the red fez, the bright red pantaloons, the embroidered short jacket — making this one of the most visually distinctive Civil War sets in the Tradition range. Pair the regiment with Union Infantry Firing and Loading extending the firing line, with Mounted General Grant in overall command, or face them off against the Confederate Infantry Charging for the Hood-versus-Zouaves moment at Second Bull Run.

Tradition of London model 0911. 54mm scale (approximately 1/30), white metal, hand-painted in gloss enamel. Nine-piece set: officer firing revolver, color bearer with Stars and Stripes, and seven 5th New York Zouaves at the firing line, in full Zouave dress (red fez, embroidered jacket, red pantaloons, white gaiters) on classic painted bases. Supplied in the Tradition Classic Red Box. Allow 2–3 weeks delivery.
