Every army runs on two supply systems — the official one, and the one that actually gets things done. In the Pacific the Marines issued a plain olive-drab poncho to the rank and file, but a limited number came in the Corps' frog-skin camouflage, and those had a way of ending up on the shoulders of officers and salty old sergeants who knew how to scrounge. K&C's own line for this figure says it plainly: rank has its privileges. It is a small, true detail of soldier life — the quiet economy of trades, favors, and "moonlight requisition" that ran alongside the official one, by which a good officer kept himself, and often his men, a little better equipped.
K&C sculpts the officer on the move, the camouflage poncho hanging heavy over green trousers and leggings, a camo-covered M1 helmet, a pistol drawn in one hand as he reads the ground. He joins the Corps' officer line for a Pacific diorama: under the command of Chesty Puller, beside the walking Marine officer with his carbine, and the shouting Marine officer driving the attack.
