Between the killing, there was waiting. When a Marine division came off an island it was shipped to a rear-area camp to rebuild — the 1st Marine Division to Pavuvu in the Russells, others to Melbourne or the New Hebrides — and there the survivors rested, absorbed green replacements, and tried to become whole units again. Pavuvu was half paradise, half misery: coconut groves and rats, rot and boredom, endless working parties. Men wrote letters, played cards, and waited for the next operation nobody could name yet. "Hurry up and wait" was the oldest complaint in uniform, and the Marine at ease knew it as well as anyone. This figure catches that in-between calm.
K&C sculpts the Marine at ease, the M1 Garand held loosely at his side, weight settled, in green Pacific fatigues, a camouflage-covered M1 helmet, full pack, and ammo pouches. A quiet counterpoint to the action figures, he rounds out a staging-area or formation diorama beside the standing Marine at attention, the standing ready Marine, and the marching Marines forming up to move out.
King & Country model USMC065. 1/30 scale (approximately 60mm), matte-painted metal. Single foot figure on a sculpted groundwork base. Boxed.
