Early in the war, Major General William Rupertus of the Marine Corps wrote a short pledge that every recruit would come to know by heart: "This is my rifle. There are many like it, but this one is mine... Without me, my rifle is useless. Without my rifle, I am useless." The Rifleman's Creed made explicit what the Corps had always believed — that the individual Marine and his weapon were a single fighting unit, and that a man's life and his fellows' lives rode on how well he knew and kept it. A Marine cleaned his rifle before he cleaned himself. This figure, holding his M1 Garand ready for inspection, is that creed in the flesh.
K&C sculpts the Marine holding his M1 Garand in both hands at the ready, in green Pacific fatigues, a camouflage-covered M1 helmet, ammo belt, and field pack — the full combat load. Posed for inspection or the next order, he fills out a formation diorama beside the standing Marine at attention, the stand-at-ease Marine, and the walking Marine stepping off.
King & Country model USMC064. 1/30 scale (approximately 60mm), matte-painted metal. Single foot figure on a sculpted groundwork base. Boxed.
