Even walls that stayed standing bore witness. A stucco face pocked and gouged, its plaster blasted away in patches to bare the stone beneath, is the fingerprint of a firefight โ€” the record of the bullets and shrapnel that scarred everything a battle touched. And the walls were the lucky survivors. Liberating Normandy meant fighting through its towns and villages, and the cost to them was terrible: Saint-Lรด was so thoroughly flattened it was called "the Capital of Ruins," Caen was gutted, and tens of thousands of French civilians died under the guns and bombs of their own liberation. A damaged wall carries that hard truth into a diorama.

The piece is a hand-painted stucco wall scarred with battle damage, the plaster shot away to reveal the stonework โ€” ideal terrain for a village or street-fighting scene. Stage the fight across it from both sides: put the U.S. Infantryman with Grenade Launcher working up the street while the German Grenadier and the Panzerknacker fight from the ruins.

W. Britain model HA2097. 1/30 scale, matte, hand-painted. Hand-cast high-density urethane foam, approximately 3"H ร— 13.5"L ร— 0.75"W, with battle-scarred stucco and stonework; can be trimmed to fit a custom footprint. Made and hand-painted in the USA.
