Grenadiers stood on the right of the battalion, the place of honour, and on campaign their companies were often detached from their regiments and grouped into battalions of their own. General James Wolfe did this for the Quebec expedition of 1759. He formed the Louisbourg Grenadiers from the grenadier companies of the 22nd, 40th and 45th Foot, whose regiments stayed behind to garrison Louisbourg. They led his landing below the Montmorency falls on 31 July and charged the French lines without waiting for support, until a thunderstorm ended the attack. On 13 September, on the Plains of Abraham, Wolfe stood beside them on the right of the line and was mortally wounded near them.

The officer leads with his sword drawn, in a long red coat laced with gold, a gilt gorget at his throat and a crimson sash, with black boots instead of gaiters. The sergeant points out the line with one arm, halberd upright in his other hand. The six privates fire, prime and load. All wear dark blue mitre caps with the GR cipher and red backs, red coats with dark blue facings laced in white, dark blue breeches and white gaiters. Add British Grenadiers to bring the company up to strength. Set British General James Wolfe, 1759 beside them, and hang Don Troiani's 40th Regiment of Foot British Grenadier print, a regiment whose grenadiers served in the Louisbourg Grenadiers.
