George Washington appears here as a young officer of the Virginia Regiment, as commander of the Continental Army, and at his inauguration; Andrew Jackson in the Creek War, William Henry Harrison in 1812, Ulysses S. Grant in the field, and Theodore Roosevelt in Cuba in 1898. Then the run of twentieth-century officers — Truman with his artillery battery in France in 1918, Eisenhower in command, and the naval lieutenants of the Second World War: Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Ford and Bush.
