Confederate in Frock Coat Advancing
This is toy soldier 31379 - Confederate in Frock Coat Advancing
This toy soldier is a unique addition to any collection. It depicts a Confederate soldier in a frock coat, advancing into battle. The 1/30 scale and matte finish give it a realistic appearance, making it a standout piece.
In 1859, the U.S. Army adopted a single breasted nine button frock coat for all branches of service. This coat was widely copied by both Northern and Southern militias at the start of the Civil War. While some Confederate depots made frock coats for general issue, many were made by families back home and sent to soldiers as part of the commutation system.
This soldier is wearing a typical frock coat with a nine button pattern on the front. These coats were usually made of wool or jean cloth and only lined in the upper body and sleeves. While some had decorative piping or tape trim, this particular coat is plain and could represent a soldier from various Southern states.
