Power has a price, and for the 88 it was paid in barrels. The velocity that let it kill at extreme range scoured the rifling out of a tube in a few thousand rounds, so Krupp built the barrel in sections — a worn liner could be knocked out and replaced in the field instead of scrapping the whole gun. The Flak 37 refined this further and added an improved fire-control data system, while its late-war carriage was deliberately simplified, shedding fittings so that strained German factories could keep turning guns out. The result was the same lethal weapon, engineered to keep firing and keep being built.
The sixteen-piece set gives the Flak 37 in late-war camouflage with a full spread of ammunition — clips, loose rounds and crates — ready to lay out around the trails. It sits between its siblings in the range: the early overall-grey Flak 36/37 and the stripped-down Late War Rebuild Without Shield. Add the crew of Preparing for Action and you have a gun position that tells the whole arc of the weapon in one diorama.
W. Britain model 25181. 1/30 scale, matte-painted metal. Sixteen-piece set — the 88mm Flak 37 gun with late-war carriage in camouflage finish, with ammunition. Boxed.
