By late 1944 Germany was running out of soldiers, and the Volksgrenadier — "People's Grenadier" — divisions were the answer to that shortage. Raised from the manpower it had left, they mixed teenage conscripts, older men, recovered wounded, and sailors and airmen combed out of their services for the infantry, stiffened by a core of veterans. To offset how green and thinly trained many of them were, these divisions were handed a heavy weight of automatic firepower — StG 44 assault rifles, machine pistols, and Panzerfausts — on the theory that volume of fire could make up for a lack of experience. A man like this, humping ammunition to feed those guns, kept that firepower in action.

The figure stands in a heavy greatcoat with an StG slung, an ammo can in hand, steel helmet low. Set him supplying the guns of a late-war squad — the 26th Volksgrenadier Firing StG 44 and the Grenadier Firing StG 44 — mirroring the same job on the American side, the U.S. Ammunition Bearer.

W. Britain model 25077. 1/30 scale (approximately 60mm), matte-painted metal. Single foot figure on a sculpted groundwork base. Boxed.
