No machine defined the Vietnam War like the UH-1 "Huey." The helicopter gave the infantry a mobility no army had ever had — lifting a rifle company off a firebase, setting it down in a hot landing zone miles away, and pulling it out at day's end. For the grunt it meant a war of sudden contrasts: hours of boredom and waiting, then the roar and rush of a combat assault, then boredom again. "Grunt" was the infantryman's own name for himself, half complaint and half pride — the man who humped the boonies and did the fighting while everyone else supported. These two, resting between lifts, are grunts waiting on the next ride.

K&C sculpts the two grunts at rest — one kneeling on the ground, the other perched on a wooden ammo crate, each cradling an M16, in flak jackets, jungle utilities, and camouflaged M1 helmets. The set was designed to sit inside K&C's UH-1 Huey, but works equally as combat downtime in a diorama, waiting for the call that sends them to join the Marines moving forward, the cautiously advancing team, or the mortar crew already in the fight.

King & Country model VN180. 1/30 scale (approximately 60mm), matte-painted metal. Two-figure set — two kneeling Marines, one on an ammo crate — for the ground or a K&C UH-1 Huey. Boxed.
