At Oriskany on 6 August 1777 the Iroquois Confederacy fought itself. General Nicholas Herkimer's Tryon County militia was marching to relieve Fort Stanwix, joined by a company of Oneida warriors under Han Yerry. In a ravine about six miles from the fort, Loyalists and Mohawk and Seneca warriors allied to the British lay waiting. The fighting was at close quarters. Han Yerry's wife, Tyonajanegen, had come armed with two pistols. When a wound to the wrist left her husband unable to load, she loaded his musket for him. Herkimer was mortally wounded, but the British siege of Fort Stanwix soon collapsed, and the Oneida stood with the Americans for the rest of the war.

This warrior crouches on a rock, his musket held upright in one hand and a knife in the other, ready to rise. He wears a red wool cap, and his face is painted red, with black around his eyes. Over a pale checked linen shirt, a yellow strap crosses his chest. Below are dark leggings tied with red beaded garters, and moccasins. For Oriskany, set him in the ravine opposite Chief Joseph Brant 1776, who led the Mohawks there. Add "Finished!" Woodland Indian Clubbing Continental Line in Hunting Shirt for the close fighting, and Shawnee Indian Warrior, 1750-80 to show nations divided by the Revolution.
