This is toy soldier Sergeant Major Lewis Douglass, 54th Massachusetts Infantry, American Civil War

The Sergeant Major Lewis Douglass figurine is a tribute to the brave and influential soldier who fought for the Union during the American Civil War. As the eldest son of renowned abolitionist Frederick Douglass, Lewis Henry Douglass was no stranger to the fight against slavery. He apprenticed as a typesetter for his father's anti-slavery newspapers before answering the call for black soldiers.

Enlisting in the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, Douglass quickly rose through the ranks and attained the highest rank an African American could hold at that time - Sergeant Major. He saw action at the battles of James Island, Olustee, and Fort Wagner, where he was wounded and witnessed the bravery of his fellow soldiers: 'This regiment has established its reputation as a fighting regiment for not a man flinched.'

This 1/30 scale figurine features a matte finish and is a one-piece set, making it a perfect addition to any Civil War or military collection. It serves as a reminder of the courage and determination of Sergeant Major Lewis Douglass and the impact he had on changing the sentiment towards black troops during the war.
