A wounded American soldier's best hope was the man the whole squad simply called "Doc." The combat medic went unarmed, marked with the Red Cross, and crawled to the wounded under the same fire everyone else was trying to escape. He did the first, decisive work — a morphine syrette, sulfa powder in the wound, a pressure dressing, sometimes plasma — then got the man onto a litter and started him back toward the aid station. That chain of evacuation, combined with sulfa, plasma, and the new penicillin, meant a soldier who was reached quickly and carried out often survived wounds that would have killed him a generation earlier.

The figure shows the medic on the move with a folded stretcher across his shoulders, his helmet and brassard marked with the Red Cross, aid pouches on his belt. He is the pivot of a casualty-evacuation diorama: set him reaching the U.S. Infantry Casualty, with the "Reporting In" radio team calling the wounded back and the Company Officer holding the position while he works.

W. Britain model 25193. 1/30 scale (approximately 60mm), matte-painted metal. Single foot figure with a separate stretcher accessory, on a sculpted groundwork base. Boxed.
