In December 1950, Colonel Lewis "Chesty" Puller's 1st Marine Regiment was part of the 1st Marine Division cut off at the Chosin Reservoir, surrounded by ten Chinese divisions in sub-zero cold. Told his command was encircled, Puller is said to have answered, "They're in front of us, behind us, and we're flanked on both sides by an enemy that outnumbers us. They can't get away from us now." The Marines fought their way out down a single mountain road, bringing their wounded and their dead with them. It was the last of the campaigns that made Puller the most decorated Marine in history, holder of five Navy Crosses.

W. Britain sculpts Puller in the field rather than in dress — M1 helmet with camouflage cover, utilities and field jacket, a pistol belt with carbine magazine pouches, one hand resting at his hip in the aggressive, barrel-chested stance that gave him his nickname. The figure stands at the center of the Corps' mid-century story and ties its clusters together: back to the Banana Wars Marine of the 1920s where his career began, and across the Pacific island war he led, beside the WWII Marine Rifleman and the Marine Raider of Guadalcanal.

W. Britain model 13040. 1/30 scale (approximately 60mm), solid metal hand-painted in a matte finish. Single foot figure on a sculpted groundwork base. Supplied in original W. Britain packaging.
