The Union Navy started the war with about ninety warships. It ended with more than 670 — the largest fleet in the world at that time. The buildup combined every kind of vessel that could hold a gun: deep-water frigates on the blockade off the Carolina and Gulf coasts, monitor-pattern ironclads for coastal combat, shallow-draft gunboats for the western rivers, mortar schooners, and converted merchant steamers. Naval Secretary Gideon Welles, working with David Dixon Porter and David Farragut, used this fleet to execute the "Anaconda Plan" — strangling the Confederacy by sealing every coast and splitting it down the Mississippi.

The eight-figure set captures a Union Navy shore detachment at attention: three seamen in regulation white shirts with black neckerchiefs and flat sailor caps, dark navy trousers, holding rifles or staffs; the captain in dark blue frock coat with gold buttons and white trousers, peaked cap with gold braid, at the center; the petty officer, midshipman in shorter jacket, color bearer with the Stars and Stripes ensign, and drummer at the right with a red snare drum. Pair the Union detachment with the matching Confederate Navies at Attention for a two-side naval display, or set it as a shore landing detachment alongside Mounted General Grant.

Tradition of London model 908. 54mm scale (approximately 1/30), white metal, hand-painted in gloss enamel. Eight-piece set: three Union seamen with rifles, naval captain in frock coat and white trousers, petty officer, midshipman, color bearer with U.S. Navy ensign, and drummer, on classic painted bases. Supplied in the Tradition Classic Red Box. Allow 2–3 weeks delivery.
