The Pacific night belonged to the Japanese, and every Marine learned to dread it. Infiltrators crawled toward the foxholes in the dark, probing the line, sometimes calling out in English to make a nervous Marine fire and give away his position. So the Marines dug in two to a hole — one watching while the other slept — and held a hard rule: at night you did not shoot, because a muzzle flash marked you for a grenade. You used the knife, the entrenching tool, or your hands. Nothing tested a young Marine like standing that watch, straining into the black. This figure, rifle ready and eyes scanning, is a Marine on watch.
K&C sculpts the Marine standing watchful, the M1 Garand held ready across his body, head turned to scan, in green Pacific fatigues, a camouflage-covered M1 helmet, and field pack. He is the eyes of a patrol diorama — spotting for the walking Marine sniper, holding the flank as the walking Marine advances, and standing to alongside the standing ready Marine.
King & Country model USMC066. 1/30 scale (approximately 60mm), matte-painted metal. Single foot figure on a sculpted groundwork base. Boxed.
