Historical Significance:
Colonel Henry Dodge (1782–1867) was a distinguished frontiersman, military leader, and statesman. He played a crucial role in early American westward expansion, serving as the first Colonel of the U.S. Dragoons, a regiment that became the backbone of cavalry operations in the pre-Civil War U.S. Army. Dodge was also a key figure in the Black Hawk War (1832), where he led troops in pursuit of the Sauk leader Black Hawk. His efforts helped shape U.S. military tactics in dealing with Native American resistance.
Appointed by President Andrew Jackson, Dodge led an 1835 peace expedition with Native American tribes, aiming to secure U.S. territorial interests while avoiding open conflict. Among his captains in the 1st U.S. Dragoons was Nathan Boone, the youngest son of the legendary frontiersman Daniel Boone.
Figure Details:
This 1/30 scale model portrays Colonel Dodge in a buckskin fringed coat, signifying his role as a seasoned frontier soldier. He holds a long rifle, essential for survival and combat in the untamed wilderness. His stance—firm and resolute—captures the essence of a leader who commanded respect both on the battlefield and in negotiations.
This is an excellent piece for collectors of early American military history, westward expansion, and frontier warfare miniatures, offering a glimpse into the life of one of America’s most influential military figures of the 19th century.
