The cry the Confederate infantry gave going into action wasn't a cheer. Union veterans called it "blood-curdling" and "the shrillest, weirdest, gloomiest sound" they had ever heard — somewhere between a coyote howl and a fox hunter's "view halloo," delivered at maximum pitch with hats waving and flags forward. It became known as the Rebel Yell. It originated in Stonewall Jackson's Valley campaign in 1862 and was a feature of every Confederate advance afterward, from the Cornfield at Antietam to the woods at Chickamauga to the field at Cemetery Ridge. Confederate veterans recorded on wax cylinders in the 1930s gave the closest reconstructions of what the yell actually sounded like.

The seven-figure set captures a Confederate company at the moment of advance: officer extending his sword arm forward, color bearer waving his slouch hat with the ANV battle flag held high, drummer beating the long roll, sergeant at center, two privates loading rifles, and a wounded man bandaged at the head still in line. Mixed dress throughout — gray shell jackets, butternut frock coats, captured Federal sky-blue trousers — the typical look of a Confederate regiment by the second year of the war. Pair the set with the Confederate Artillery with a 12 Pounder for combined-arms support, with General Lee in command, or face it off against Union Infantry with Color Bearer.

Tradition of London model 0905. 54mm scale (approximately 1/30), white metal, hand-painted in gloss enamel.
