Federal Irish Brigade Drummer
Federal Irish Brigade Drummer
This toy soldier set features a 1/30 scale Federal Irish Brigade Drummer.
The figure has a matte finish and is a single musician. During the Civil War, musicians were typically noncombatants and did not carry weapons. However, they were sometimes called into front-line action out of duty. The sound of their drums was crucial in moving troops into place on the battlefield. Despite their usual position in the rear, drummers were still at risk of injury or death from enemy fire. One such casualty was Charley King, a 13-year-old drummer who was struck by shrapnel from a Confederate shell at the Battle of Antietam. He died three days later and was the youngest casualty at the battle.
