The 2nd battalion of the Régiment de Guyenne was one of four battalions that landed at Quebec in 1755 with Baron Dieskau. It went on to fight in nearly every major campaign that followed: Oswego in 1756, Fort William Henry in 1757 and Carillon in 1758. By 1759 the French army in Canada was stretched across hundreds of miles, and the battalion was split to match. Part went west to Fort Niagara, part to Île aux Noix on the Richelieu, and the rest to Quebec. The men at Quebec fought at Montmorency in July and stood in the centre of Montcalm's line on the Plains of Abraham on 13 September.
This is the battalion on the march. The officer strides out in front, and behind him the drummer, in a blue coat faced with red and laced in yellow, carries his drum slung on his back. Six privates follow with their muskets shouldered. They wear grey-white coats with Guyenne's red cuffs and collars, red waistcoats, white gaiters and black tricornes edged in yellow. March them alongside French Infantry La Reine Regiment, which crossed in the same convoy, with French Infantry for the colour party. Hang Don Troiani's Bearn Regiment print behind them: Béarn was the fourth battalion that came out with Dieskau.
