The sixth stanza of the Ranger Creed says it in one line: "I will never leave a fallen comrade to fall into the hands of the enemy." That vow, written by Command Sergeant Major Neal R. Gentry of the 75th Ranger Regiment in 1974, shaped every decision made after the first Black Hawk went down on October 3, 1993. Task Force Ranger could have pulled out under fire and left the Super 61 crash site to the Somali militia. They didn't. They held the site through the night, extracted the bodies of the dead crew, and only then fought their way back to the pickup zone. The Creed is what kept them there.

The two-figure sculpt captures the fireman's carry mid-stride: the standing Ranger bracing his wounded comrade across his shoulders with one arm hooked over the man's leg while the other grips his M16A2 by the pistol grip, still ready to fire. The wounded Ranger's uniform is stained with blood across the chest and arm, his head hanging low. Both wear three-color desert combat uniform, tactical vests, and Kevlar helmets.
