At approximately 1620 on October 3, 1993, Black Hawk Super 64 was shot down over Mogadishu about a mile from the primary crash site. Ground forces couldn't reach it. Delta snipers Master Sergeant Gary Gordon and Sergeant First Class Randall Shughart, providing overwatch from Super 62, requested permission to be inserted at the wreck to protect the pilot, CWO4 Michael Durant, and the injured crew. Command denied their first two requests. Their third was approved. They roped in with sniper rifles and pistols, held off Somali militia for approximately forty minutes, and both were killed. Durant was captured and held eleven days. Gordon and Shughart received the first Medals of Honor awarded to U.S. service members since Vietnam.

The three-piece set stages the moment at the Super 64 crash site. Gordon kneels with a suppressed CAR-15 covering one arc; Shughart stands in ready position covering the opposite; Durant sits wounded against the wreckage with an MP5K submachine gun — the personal defense weapon flight crews carried. The Delta operators wear three-color desert BDUs, tactical vests, and ballistic helmets with NVG mounts. Durant wears his khaki flight suit with aviator's body armor and no helmet — his was lost in the crash. Pair the set with a Ranger cordon like the Ranger Fire Team, with No Man Left Behind for the second crash-site scene, or set it beside the M1025 Humvee as the vehicle that couldn't get through the city streets to reach them in time.
