For a sailor, liberty was a few precious hours stolen back from the war. A ship might be in port only briefly before sailing for the Pacific, so a night ashore was lived at full speed — a good meal, a dance hall or a USO club, a movie, a walk with a girl on his arm through a city crowded with men in uniform. The war compressed everything, romance included: couples met, courted, and sometimes married in the span of a single leave, knowing the next sailing date hung over all of it. This little scene captures that world — the white uniform, the best dress, and an evening that had to be enough.

The set pairs a sailor in undress whites, arm-in-arm with his date in a blue 1940s frock with red handbag and heels, on a shared base. It's the centerpiece of a liberty-port home-front diorama: set the couple among shipmates like the Sailor in Whites with Seabag and the Sailor in Crackerjacks, all part of the fleet commanded by Admiral Nimitz.

W. Britain model 13031. 1/30 scale (approximately 60mm), matte-painted metal. Two-figure set on a shared base. Boxed.
