Armored infantry were the tank's indispensable partners — "armored doughs" who rode into battle in half-tracks so they could keep pace with the Shermans, then dismounted to clear the anti-tank guns, bazooka teams, and infantry that could stop armor cold. Fighting in and around vehicles put a premium on a handier weapon than the long M1 Garand, and the M1 Carbine suited them and their officers well: light, semi-automatic, firing a smaller .30 carbine round, quick to bring up in the cramped space of a half-track or a village street. A company officer carried one as both a working weapon and a badge of the mounted infantry's fast, aggressive style of war.
The figure wears the armored crewman's helmet and goggles, the M1 Carbine in hand and a sidearm holstered, poised to lead a dismount. He is the command piece of a combined-arms diorama: ride him in aboard the M3A1 Half-track, put the Armored Infantryman Advancing at his side, and roll them beside the M4A3 Sherman.
