The Sherman won its war on numbers and reliability, not on brute strength. First blooded with the British at El Alamein in 1942, it was mechanically dependable, easy to fix with interchangeable parts, and built in staggering quantity — more than 50,000 rolled out of American factories. What it was not was a match, gun-for-gun, for the heavy German Panthers and Tigers it met in Normandy and beyond; its 75mm gun struggled against their frontal armor, and its habit of catching fire when hit earned it the grim nickname "Ronson," after the lighter that "lights first time." The Allies beat the better German tanks anyway — with more Shermans, greater mobility, and command of the air.

The model carries the 75mm gun and .50 cal, antenna, removable rear stowage and a length of scale rope, in the white-star and 6th Armored / 69th Tank Battalion markings of Germany, 1945. As the backbone of an armored column it runs with the M10 Tank Destroyer for anti-tank punch, is crewed and serviced by the Tankers and Accessories Set, and shepherds the Armored Infantryman Advancing forward in a combined-arms diorama.

W. Britain model 25207. 1/30 scale, matte finish. Five-piece set — one M4A3(75) Sherman with removable rear stowage, a .50 cal machine gun, antenna, and a length of scale rope. Boxed.
