The armored rifle squad was organized around its vehicle. Twelve men — squad leader, assistant, a driver, and nine riflemen — rode in a half-track mounting a .30 and a .50 caliber machine gun, and that changed how they fought. Unlike a standard rifle squad, they were issued no Browning Automatic Rifle; the thinking was that the half-track's guns, especially the hard-hitting, long-ranged M2 .50, gave the squad its base of fire from the parked vehicle while the riflemen dismounted to maneuver. In practice the armored infantry scrounged BARs anyway, never quite convinced you could have too much firepower — a very American attitude to war.

The figure kneels alert, rifle ready, in field uniform and M1 helmet — a dismounted trooper covering his squad's move. Build the armored rifle squad around him: pair him with the Armored Infantryman Advancing and their Armored Infantry Officer, dismounting from the M3A1 Half-track whose guns give them their base of fire.

W. Britain model 25196. 1/30 scale (approximately 60mm), matte-painted metal. Single kneeling foot figure on a sculpted groundwork base. Boxed.
