Federal cavalry was a joke for the first two years of the war. Stuart's Confederate troopers rode rings around the Army of the Potomac — literally, twice, in 1862. Then on June 9, 1863, at Brandy Station, Virginia, three Federal cavalry divisions under General Alfred Pleasonton surprised Stuart's command and fought them to a draw across twelve thousand sabers — the largest cavalry battle ever fought on American soil. Brandy Station ended the Confederate cavalry's reputation as invincible. After that, every encounter was contested. By the spring of 1864, Phil Sheridan was leading Federal cavalry as an offensive corps and Stuart was dead.

The three-figure set captures a Federal cavalry section at full charge: lead trooper with saber raised over his head in the classic charge pose, two troopers behind with revolvers drawn and firing. All three wear regulation Federal cavalry dress — dark blue shell jacket with yellow trim, sky-blue trousers with yellow cavalry stripe, dark forage caps, leather gauntlets, bedrolls at the saddle cantle. Pair the set with the matching Union Cavalry command group (officer, color bearer, bugler) at the head of the column, with Mounted General Grant in overall command, or face it off against Confederate Cavalry Three Troopers for a meeting-engagement charge like Brandy Station.

Tradition of London model 0915. 54mm scale (approximately 1/30), white metal, hand-painted in gloss enamel. Three-piece set: three mounted Union cavalry troopers at the charge — one with raised saber, two firing revolvers — in regulation Federal dark blue cavalry shell jackets and sky-blue trousers, on classic painted bases. Supplied in the Tradition Classic Red Box. Allow 2–3 weeks delivery.
