This toy soldier depicts Colonel Robert Gould Shaw of the 54th Massachusetts Infantry in 1/30 scale.

The figure comes in a box with a matte finish, making it a great addition to any collection.

Shaw, from a prominent Boston abolitionist family, took command of the 54th Massachusetts in 1863. This was the first all-black regiment from the Northeast. Known for his strict discipline, Shaw trained his men rigorously for battle. They were eventually sent south to take part in an attempt to capture Charleston, specifically the defending fortification known as Battery Wagner.

During the battle, Shaw bravely mounted a parapet and urged his men forward. However, he was shot through the chest three times (some reports claim as many as seven). The fighting continued until 10 p.m., when the Union forces withdrew, having suffered heavy losses. The 54th Massachusetts suffered the greatest losses, and Shaw was interred with his men in a mass grave.

Despite the tragic outcome, Shaw's father saw his son's burial with his men as a fitting tribute to his role as a soldier and crusader for emancipation. This toy soldier serves as a reminder of Shaw's bravery and the sacrifices made by the 54th Massachusetts Infantry.
