The M203 grenade launcher solved a problem the Vietnam-era M79 "Blooper" had created: a grenadier armed with only the M79 had no rifle for close combat. The M203 clamped underneath an M16, giving one soldier both weapons on the same trigger group — 5.56mm rifle above, 40mm launcher below. Every Ranger fire team had one M203 grenadier. In Mogadishu the standard round was the M433 HEDP — high-explosive dual-purpose, effective against personnel behind low cover and against light vehicles. The M203 was the fire team's own portable artillery, the answer to the Somali gunman firing down from a rooftop that rifles couldn't easily reach.

The figure stands with M16A2/M203 combination shouldered, iron sights aligned, right hand on the pistol grip of the rifle while the M203 launcher hangs below the handguard, its short-stocked pump-action loading mechanism visible. He wears three-color desert combat uniform, a tactical vest with additional canvas grenadier pouches at the hip for 40mm rounds (each pouch holds two grenades), Kevlar helmet with cover and ballistic goggles pushed up. Pair the figure with the Ranger Fire Team as the grenadier's rifle-team, with the Rangers M249 SAW Team providing the belt-fed base of fire, or with the Ranger NCO Shouting Orders designating the rooftop target the M203 needs to reach.
