On campaign in Canada, the Compagnies franches de la Marine left much of their regulation uniform behind. In 1692 Louis XIV ordered that soldiers' clothing in the colony be made in the manner of the coureurs des bois, the fur traders who travelled the backcountry, and in 1694 nine hundred grey-white serge capots were shipped out. By the 1750s a soldier going out on a summer campaign was issued a blanket, a capot and a wool bonnet, or tuque, on top of his regular kit. The Canadian militia beside him drew leggings and moccasins every month. A Marine's regulation coat, by contrast, was replaced only once every three years.

The sergeant stands in a dark blue capot and white cap, musket grounded at his side, raising a cartridge to his mouth. His seven men wear white capots tied with red sashes, red tuques, and dark leggings with red garters above their moccasins. Some stand to fire, and others kneel to fire or load. Pair them with Compagnies Franches de la Marines for the officer and a full raiding party. Add American Woodland Indians (French Allies), and set Rogers Rangers with Robert Rogers across the clearing.
